When Leanne asked me if I wanted to come meet them at Hick's Lake in Sasquatch Provincial Park for their documentary engagement session, it took me 3.2 seconds to say yes. Apparently Doug has been coming to this lake for years and now that he and Leanne have a family of their own - they are continuing that tradition! I met them at their forest campsite along the edge of the lake and even though the cold wind was blowing, we were in for a good time.
Mack and Keely were wedded on a overcast day in the middle of October at the incredible award winning venue that is the Fraser River Lodge, in Agassiz British Columbia. Although the day was grey, the vibrant personalities of Mack and Keely made sure that laughter rolled out of every room in the lodge all day long. One of the perks of getting married at the lodge means you can take advantage of their in-house suites and rooms.
Oh christmas tree, oh christmas tree... that song has been ringing in my ears ever since this session! The day was dreary in true West Coast winter weather, but that didn't dampen the spirits of this family of 7 while the set out on their annual christmas tree hunt at the Oh Christmas Tree Farm in Langley, BC.
Do you remember the first week after you welcomed a new one home? I sure don't. It's a weird mixture of extreme exhaustion, emotion, pain and incredible wonder. It's like it becomes a hazy blur so quickly as you try to adjust to what it actually means to have a new person in your home. A person with their own opinions, desires, likes and dislikes and voice. I think even with the second, third or sixth child this first week is never truly a clear memory.
When so many people come together and bring beautiful things - this is what happens. I had the pleasure of organizing a styled bridal session with a number of vendors local to the Fraser Valley. Hair and Makeup was done at my place, and then we head up to Jones Lake just east of Chilliwack, BC. The weather was perfect and just a touch of snow on the mountains made this the perfect backdrop to a deliciously beautiful session!
Kathy is the kind of friend who welcomes you into her life and makes you feel like you've know her forever. She's my person I ask for advice from, her laugh lights up the room and I LOVE this woman. So when she asked if I'd be up for doing their family pictures I jumped at the opportunity to work with her! We tossed around a couple ideas and settled on hot chocolate and a campfire in their own backyard. Their backyard is in a beautiful wooded section of town - tall cedar and fir trees surround the property and there is a perfect spot for a fire right at the back!
Andrea and Colin work hard and they play hard. Their incredible confidence and kindness radiates off of both of them from the first time you meet them, and for me the first time was in a Starbucks near their home. It's always excited to hear a guy talk about their day and be just as excited about the details and planning as the girl. They were looking forward to a fall wedding in October and they had chosen the Semiahmoo Fish and Game Club in South Surrey as their venue. Why?
Sometimes, from the very first moment you meet someone new, you just know they have the kindest heart. That's how I felt after my first email from Genevieve asking me to photograph her daughter's birthday. She had heard my name from a friend and knew right away that my love for stories and her love for details would be a perfect harmony. Listen to her words from the letter she wrote me:
When a princess calls, you answer. I connected with Amanda when she decided to book me for her wedding, and it didn't take long for me to realize she was stuck with me as a friend. This woman is a madly talented cosplay designer + rad party princess. She made this costume herself like, ugh. I can't even thread a needle! I needed a creative outlet and she was happy to oblige so we took Merida out with us to the forest at Redwood park.
The day dawned with rain in the forecast, but I think we all needed a day out of the city regardless of the weather. Lauren and Dan picked me up and we headed out together to Harrison Lake in British Columbia. This is their happy place - and it's this session that they have been looking forward to since the start of our Year in the Life photo session.
After the 30 km drive down the dirt road north of the townsite, we arrived at our destination. The wind was blowing across the lake, and the water was lower than they had ever seen but it was as if the wind cleared your heart from the moment we climbed out of the truck..
A fire was built, and they explored the lake with their daughter. Taking the time to breathe in the scenery and each other. I got to watch them relax into tranquility - it was as if the worries and stresses of the week slipped by with each passing minute.
If you've never been privileged to be welcomed into a Greek family I can tell you that you're missing out. When I first met Matt and Yianna they joked about "her crazy family" and the vastness of it, and warned me it would be loud and a bit crazy. And you know what? They were right. The sun came up on what would be one of the hottest days of summer, and when I arrived at Camp Howdy in Belcarra Provincial Park I knew just where to find my bride in the vast array of cabins and buildings scattered around the property because the music was blaring and the laughter was echoing off the hillsides.
f you are looking for a photographer for any occasion, from day to day around the house, to a family BBQ, or even a big party, Christina is the one to get! We’ve had the privilege of working with Christina twice now, and both times it has been a dream.
This was our second experience with Christina was at our daughter’s first birthday party. She came early to get some set up pictures, and once people started arriving I forgot she was even there taking pictures. It was so comfortable having her there as there was no pressure to look a certain way, or pose a certain way. Everything was so relaxed and fun.
Do you have a place that really matters to you? The kind of place where important things happen, where memories have been made, where you go to often? Garry Point Park in Richmond is that place for Eon and Megan. It's the place where Megan spread the ashes of her dad, where they first said I love you. And of course, the place where Eon proposed. This rock is 'their rock' and it means a lot simply just to know that.
Colin and Andrea are the kind of people who make you feel like a close friend soon after meeting them. They have this chilled and calm attitude around them and I think they might of asked me more questions about myself than I did them!
I feel like Brad and Anthea are old friends. The kind of people who welcome you into their life whole heartedly and when it's time for you to leave they give you big hugs. Before their wedding day we had met up at the location to scout out potential "rain problems" just in case the weather turned sour as it can do in early March. They figured no matter what they were excited to get married and the day would be magical - and you know what, they were right!
We are so impressed by Mimsical Photography! The only thing we were concerned about was the weather, after having to cancel our first appointment (for an engagement session) due to snow and rain, Christina happily changed our date. Lucky for us we had a beautiful sunny day, and Christina made the most of it and we have so many wonderful photos to choose from :) She was really proffesional - she was at the location before us and went through extra efforts of finding perfect places for photos. We loved the fact that you enjoyed your job so much and were willing to take so many shots to get it perfect. You also allowed us to have some fun and get cool shots with the truck! She was so easy going and made us both feel comfortable and before we knew it, it was over.
As a client, sometimes it can be hard to understand why you have to pay seemingly ridiculous prices for someone who has a nice camera to show up and take some pictures. I mean, really - is it that much work? Don't we all have nice camera's on our phone? I know I've felt that way too!
Wade is my nephew. I feel like I should precursor this whole post with that statement because never in a million years did I think that my photography would give me the oppourtunity to fly from BC, Canada to the stunning West Coast of Australia to photograph a wedding. But there I went. Sans la kiddos all in honor of this incredible couple.
Fei and Ming know how to celebrate the arrival of the new year with style. 5 years ago they got married on the holiday Monday after new years, and this year they decided to celebrate again by renewing their vows with an intimate ceremony in downtown Vancouver .
Britt + Jer bought a golden retriever because they were told that children weren't an option for them. Six months later, they found out they were pregnant. It's one of those funny moments in life where you just feel like laughing at the absurdity of it all. But in due time they welcomed their little man into the world - burbling and smiling and ready to change their reality in a twinkling. Now they had the exciting task of balancing fur babies and and their own baby in a bundle of fur and fun.
Splash has more sass then both my kids combined. And that is saying something!
I had the unique opportunity to spend some time with Hailey and her gorgeous retired race horse Splash this past week at the Canada West Ranch in Abbostford BC. I've always had a crush on horses - I mean really, what girl doesn't? - so I jumped at the chance to watch Hailey put Splash through her paces and get a little glimpse into her regular days at the barn. Splash was decidedly NOT sure about me at first, turning away every time I talked to her and steadfastly tolerating my attention.
Golden colors, grey skies, and a glorious wind roaring through the trees. Laughter and giggles and a good dose of tears. Candles that didn't light. And then didn't light AGAIN. Quiet moments, and a vintage car. Dropjes, gift baskets and visits to work places. And a covenant made before God.
This is my life. I'd like to share a piece with you!
Grandpa and Grandma came to visit last weekend.
Really, as grandparents go, they are the best. Even though the day was overcast and drizzly we managed to treat them to a few hidden treasures that we have found already here in BC! Elgin Heritage farms is this super quaint little farm just outside of the Crescent Beach Townsite. It is one of the last original farmsteads in the lower mainland and it has been preserved very thoughtfully! Exploring their heritage apple orchard was such a treat!
